Favourite people of 2010 ★All around awesome sauce, brilliant, amazing person who proved just why I loved her previously as I fell more in love/obsessed with her ★ Sheridan Smith - aka Granny Smith
Sheridan Smith has been in my life (television wise) since I was 9/10 when she first appeared in The Royle Family when she was little bb!17 Sheridan. Since then I have pretty much watched anything she has been in. I don’t particularly know what it was when I was 10/11 that made me want to watch her, I just thought she was funny (and also pretty). And it basically grew from there. It was when she was in Eyes Down that I really started to like her, and then by Benidorm I was just like ‘I need more of you in my life.’
The thing with Sheridan is that she is probably most famous for playing Janet Smith in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, who was kind of a chav. And I think she did sort of get typecast a bit into chavy roles, which she plays so well, she really does, but it was obvious (partly due to the fact you could just tell and partly due to the fact she was nominated for an Olivier Award for Little Shop of Horrors) she could do so much more, and she deserved to be getting bigger roles than being in a few episodes of Gavin and Stacey [can’t miss out the rap] and Benidorm, not that I didn’t want her to be doing them because they are both huge shows but I also wanted her to be doing something more as well.
Then along came LegallyBlonde at the end of 2009. And this is the kind of thing I had been waiting for, a lead role, a lead role that was good, a role where not only did she act, but she could sing, and dance and put her perfect comic timing to good use. This role was made for her and I couldn’t be more proud of her, after following her career for over 10 years she is FINALLY getting the recognition from media, and the general public, that she deserves. And can show people that there is SO much more to her than ‘that girl from Two Pints.’
After seeing Legally Blonde I was just totally in love with this woman, and it was quite emotional seeing her up on the stage.
And it just so happens she is also an awfully lovely, kind, adorable and funny person (with a cute accent), who is hardworking and dedicated, as well as super talented. Also her tweets! Oh my gosh, love. Oh and in the straightest possible way, she is totally hot. And beautiful.
She has had a bad back for nearly half the year (that happened the show before mine) and a hip thing a couple of days before I went for the second time (still with the bad back), both of these times she was AMAZING. It seems even with man flu she is doing pretty ace.
Her attitude towards her fans is rather gorgeous. When I went to see her she could barely walk (I must say, I know she was in pain, but it was rather adorable because she had to hold on to this HUGE man and she is quite tiny) but she was so sunshiny and just happy to be there.
I really cannot wait for 2011 (apart from the emotional wreck I will be on 8th Jan) to see what she does next *betterbeBridgetJones*. I need her to never leave the West End, I need her to be singing forever. She can do a few films and tv bits on the side of course, but I really just want her to continue being genius on stage forever.
Love you babe.
People of 2010 ★ All around amazing wonderful person who I fell head over heels in love with so made up this special category for because I couldn’t let them go in a normal one ★ Elizabeth Mitchell
Oh how do I even begin to write down my love for this woman and get it across fully. I really do not think I can. I do just love her. A lot. Epic proportions.
Shall we all just stare at the pretty gif above? As I feel this sums up pretty much everything. There is the all round general adorableness going on, and the nose scrunching thing she does so well, and the laugh, and smile, and the hair. So basically let’s all just look at HER FACE!!
First off, this woman is a bloody wonderful actress (Emmy nom should have been win y’all). Secondly she has an amazingly soothing voice, like I would have no problem with her just sitting talking to me all day long 24/7. She would talk and I would stare. And possibly tell her to put a vest on. She is so precious, and lovely and funny and stunning. And best of all she is a (glossier) nerd and a geek and a total fangirl. And perfection and flawless…
She just comes across as somebody who is genuinely a nice, friendly, down to earth person.
I think it is probably impossible to not like this woman. Actually not probably impossible, it is impossible. And if somebody says they don’t like her then I will judge them forever and a day, because seriously?
I hope you are all getting the general idea here.
2010 was the year my heart was stolen by Elizabeth Mitchell, and I do not regret one second of it.
People of 2010 ★ Actress ★ Sandra Bullock
Most known for: Miss Congeniality, The Blind Side, The Proposal, The Lake House, Two Weeks Notice, Practical Magic, Speed, All About Steve…
She’s got style, she’s got grace, she’s a winner.
Film actress (and actor) wise, this woman has been top of the list for a good many years. Just forgetting her talent for a second, she comes across as one of THE nicest, and one of the funniest people around, I’ve never heard a bad word said about her, and her interviews are hilarious, and sweet and kind of perfect. And she prefers womens tennis over mens. She is beautiful inside and out, and deserved every wonderful thing that happened to her in 2010.
This year was the best and worst time to be a Sandy fan. But both the highs, winning basically every award going, making history winning the Razzie and Oscar, smashing the box office with The Blind Side, baby Louis. And the lows, she handled it all with such grace and dignity and I can’t understand how anybody could not at the least, respect her, whether you think she deserved the Oscar or not.
The awards season was made so much fun because of her, and the Meryl/Sandy duo. And so even though she hasn’t been in a new film this year, all of the above is the reason she is my actress pick of 2010.
It was her year to shine and she did just that, the whole way through. And she has made me even prouder than I already was to be a Sandra B fan.
People of 2010 ★ Musical Theatre ★ Louise Dearman
Most known for: Glinda in Wicked
After about 10 minutes of her being on stage I already knew that she was going to be my favourite Glinda, I have seen five others (not live) but I thought there was something special about her. Her version of Popular was just perfection, and I really would go and see it again just to watch her perform that one scene. That was basically the moment I knew Louise Dearman would be on my list of people to watch.
She was just brilliant from start to finish. Then when the show finished she did her 4 years of Wicked being in the West End speech and I decided then that anything she was in I would be there. Not because the speech was so wonderful, but because it was totally a sign, out of all the cast she was the one who spoke, clearly somebody was trying to say “Katie here is somebody you need to start your fangirling ways with.” So I did.
She has a beautiful, amazing, stunning, etc etc voice, is an absolute joy to watch on stage, and is just lovely and sweet, gorgey, cute and really rather amusing. She also manages to make me not hate the Confused.com adverts, in actual fact I look forward to them because of her voice. Plus she gives loads of mp3s away which is always greatly appreciated.
I really, really, really with cherries on top, hope that she will have a brilliant and long career on the stage and I will be able to see her in many more shows. She is already in my top 5 performers list after seeing her just once, I have a feeling she will be fighting for the top spot this time next year.
And that is why Miss Louise Dearman is my musical theatre performer of 2010.
